Don’t Be Afraid of Personal Promotion

Let me ask you this? If you went to the hair salon and were in search of a new style and asked the stylist to recommend a style for you and they said something like… “Umm, geez, I am not sure… umm maybe this one might look good, but then again, I can’t be certain”…. etc.

How would you feel? Would you feel like that person was not sure of themselves? Would you feel you were paying a professional who was not up to snuff?

Having the confidence to promote and own your worth is a HUGE deal in business. Read the words of T. Harv Ecker from his book “Secrets of The Millionaire Mind”:

“Resenting promotion is one of the greatest obstacles to success. People who have issues with selling and promotion are usually broke. It’s obvious. How can you create a large income in your own business or as a representative of one if you aren’t willing to let people know that you, your product, or your service exists? Even as an employee, if you aren’t willing to promote your virtues, someone who is willing will quickly bypass you on the corporate ladder.”

By owning your voice. so to speak, and being able to promote yourself or your business in an honest and ethical way is a very important component of business success. It is our job as business owners and entrepreneurs to share our gifts and our gifts of service with the world. It is our job to promote ourselves and our skills so that we can be of service to others. Self promotion is important for two reasons. 1) To let people know what you have available for them and 2) To set the stage for trust and mutual benefit from what you have to offer.

Whenever you doubt yourself or you question promoting yourself, think of a role reversal and how you would feel it that person was not confident in their role. My favorite is the surgeon. You: “Hey Doc. how do you think this surgery will go for me?” Doc: “Mmm geez I don’t think I am that good so I really can’t say. I’m just not confident in promoting myself or this procedure”. ๐Ÿ™‚ LOL see what I mean? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Is it an Asset or a Liability?

money tree

One of the things I have learned about what makes successful people successful is they use this question a lot! “Is this an asset or a liability?”

An asset is something that benefits you and contributes to your success and a liability is something that takes away or simply does not contribute.

For example, if I buy a large screen TV to watch general TV programming and I am an entrepreneur this would most likely be a liability and even perhaps cost me money over and above the initial purchase cost of the television because the time I spend watching takes me away from building my own business!

On the other hand, if I purchased the TV to use for doing business presentations or for watching webinars on topics useful to growing my business, then it is an asset and a potential tax deduction!ย  It can actually make me money and/or enhance my business.

When you learn to question everything including the time you spend doing things, you quickly start to learn to make asset building choices more often.

There you go a simple question you can use to change your business and your life!

Ask Questions. Get Results!

who what when where why

Whether you are in a business where you sell a product or service, or you are in a recruiting type of business where your business grows by adding partners to your team, asking questions is paramount to success.

Many people have a fear of saying ‘the wrong thing’. Well guess what? When you ask questions you take the focus off of yourself and you let your prospect or potential customer do the talking! And then, they tell you all you will ever need to know to better answer the question of why they should partner with you or why your product may be the solution to their problem or challenge. Questions rule! Listeners win!

By becoming a master question asker, you will create value with your prospects, uncover needs and wants, and more importantly you will create a relationship that can grow and evolve. Have you ever been with someone who goes on and on and only talks about themselves? You know, the “I”, “I”, “I”, types. Not too fun is it?

When we ask questions, we show we care, and we gain insight, and when we take the opportunity to truly listen and to digest what they are saying, we truly gain huge strides in relationship building.

Have fun asking questions. As a Life and Business Coach, I have learned to ask lots of questions. The coaching model is based on asking good questions and probing our clients to help them identify where it is they want to go, and sales is no different. The sooner you become a Master Question Asker, the sooner you will flourish in your business, and more importantly, the sooner you will begin making a difference in the lives of others.

Maggie is a Certified Life & Business Coach, who helps people all over the world to lead their lives with passion and to create businesses that are customized to their unique situations, want and desires. Blogging & Organizing Tip for Creatives

I love information and when I see something that is a topic that inspires me, or an article, blog post, picture, etc., I simply send myself that article or piece, as a reminder that I want to ‘write about it’.

I have set up a separate email account just for myself that is for my blogging, so when I run across something that inspires me, I just shoot it off to my email. It’s kind of like a digital filing cabinet for my ideas that I can access from anywhere.

Actually, I have set up many emails for this purpose. For example for my travel notes and itineraries, my to do list, etc. It works like a charm because my main email is home to a few hundred thousand emails (I don’t delete), and I subscribe to a lot of things (more ideas for me ) and this keeps these email accounts separate and targeted to my topic at hand i.e. “for blogging”.

I hope you found this helpful and happy blogging!

Getting Results from Knowing What You Want!

Everyday I receive a note from, also known as “Notes from the Universe”. Today’s was great and inspired me to write a quick blog post around it. Here it is:
True life mastery,ย Maggie, is more a function of knowing what to want, than knowing how to get what you want.ย
ย ย ย The Universe
This one hit me perfectly. I have a note on my fridge that says something like “All business starts and ends in my mind.” This is a saying I made up. I know for a fact that the results I get all start with my mind and my intention.
When my daughter was little she used to call it ‘minding’. She would say something like “Mom, I minded it”. And I knew exactly what she meant!
I mind everyday. In fact, I have become a ‘Master Minder’ย and ‘Master Manifestor’.ย
I attribute most of my success at all of this from my understanding of how clear one must be with universal laws. You truly have to know what you want and to be very clear about it. The universe does not respond well, or maybe I should say, IT DOES respond well, to confusion. LOL!
When one is wishy washy and uncertain, guess what you get in your life and business? More uncertainty and things bouncing around. But when you know without a shadow of a doubt that success or greatness, or servitude is what you seek, it will seek you back!
For more on this you can read a post over on my main blogย What You Seek Seeks YOU!
Read carefully what the second part of the note from the universeย  saysย  “than knowing how to get what you want”. Let that sink in. To me, this means I must be clear on what I want and what is important to ME, and then I TRUST in the power of the energetic alignment of that which I am seeking is seeking me. It’s soooooooooooo simple! I personally do this everyday and all the time.
For me it’s getting to the point that it almost happens instantaneously!ย  For example, a little story. The other day I was thinking I would like an extra thermos type carafe for my coffee maker so I could take one with me while driving and then still have one at home… you know make and go ๐Ÿ™‚ Well later that day I walked into one of my favorite thrift stores and BAM, the exact one I wanted and needed.ย  Exactly! And only $3, I might add. ๐Ÿ™‚
The carafe story is a little example of the power of being clear on what you want and then allowing it to match up, but it matters not…. if one can do it with a coffee pot, one can do it with something larger like success in business, or happiness, or more JOY! It all responds to the same laws!!!!
One of my missions is to help my clients with these powerful truths.ย  In fact, in May, I am travelling to Denver and going to become a certified “Infinite Possibilities Trainer”. I know pretty cool right?
Anyhoo, I gotta run and getting ready for a workshop I am attending at the Northwestern Innovations Centreย NWO Website Linkย ย ย ย where I will be learning about patents! I love learning and it also helps me to be a better coach.
Have a great day everyone!

Take That First Step

In all my years as an entrepreneur and business owner, one of the key things that I feel is so important and something that I go back to time and time again is the simple art of taking the first step!

I am a very creative person and my mind is firing ideas and creativity all day (and night ๐Ÿ™‚ ) long!ย  None of this matters unless you apply it and it is something I have struggled with for years…. too many ideas and not enough focus.ย  However, I have been able to change this for the better simply by ‘doing something’ which is similar to a first step.

For example, I recently started this business blog. That was a first step. I thought about how I have so much experience in all kinds of business and how I love to share and help people with what I have learned over the years, so I thought hey why not blog about it? And I took the step and started the blog.

The best time to feed an idea is when it’s born. ๐Ÿ™‚ Then it starts to grow on its own and will expand and adapt as one goes along. The other key after taking a first step are taking small steps like I am doing… trying to write a blog post here every other day or so. It’s not that I don’t want to, or for lack of content or commitment, but more so time… there is only so much time in a day, but because I took that first step I’m in the game. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now it’s baby steps, putting one foot in front on the other until I will be up and running and off to my next first step.

What about you? Is it time to take the first step on something? Another way to look at is “taking the plunge”…. take the plunge and let the details work themselves out as you go along. So often we analysis everything to death and it stops us in our tracks. Successful people take plunges and get things done. ๐Ÿ™‚

Maggie is a Certified Life Coach and Business Coach who takes first steps often and is learning to be more focused. She has so much she wants to do in life and there are so many things that bring her JOY, it’s hard to pick! ๐Ÿ™‚

A Tip from a Landlord in Cold Temps

I was reflecting today on how I have been a landlady since I was about 20 years old and have now accumulated 30 plus years of experience.ย  Wow.ย  I was impressed with myself when I realized how young I was when I started ๐Ÿ™‚ย  In the 30 plus years I have had to take care of various issues, and itย got me thinking about things that I have learned along the wayย  that I can share that might be helpful to others.

Yesterday, Canada was the coldest spot in the entire world. Geraldton, Ontario hit -51!!! One of the things that has been coming up aย  lot lately, while wearing my landlady hat in these frigid temps, is freezing pipes and water issues.ย  So today’s tip from me is for everyone. Whether you are a home owner, a landperson (correct term?) lol, or a tenant, everyone needs to know this:

In your home or residence make sure you know where to shut off your main water that goes into the house as well as the shut off valve on your hot water tank.ย  There are also individual shut offs under sinks and such which are good to know, but knowing where the two main ones are are the most important!

water valve

When a pipe breaks or there is a leak, one does not have time to think and figure these things out. ๐Ÿ™‚

Being prepared is the best way to circumvent disaster and costly repercussions.

I hope you found this helpful and I look forward to sharing more useful information to empower others on life’s journey.

Business is Seed Planting

Life and Business are about planting seeds. Whether you are birthing a new idea, making a post on your Facebook page, or writing a blog post, you are planting seeds!

What is a seed?  A seed of any kind is unit of reproduction, capable of developing into another such plant/offspring.

What Kind of Seeds To Plant?

What are you looking to achieve in your business? Increased profits? Better revenues? More customer share? Added value?  No matter what you are looking to achieve, always plant seeds of value. Be and offer value to your current clients and customers and future clients and customers.

I personally add my own sprinkle of fertilizer in my seed planting and that is a sprinkling of servitude. No matter what I do, writing this blog post for example, I do it with an attitude of serving the world. I want to make a difference. I want to help people. I want to empower others and help them in their life and business. At the same time I am indeed planting seeds that may one day bloom.

Seeds that are planted, with value-added, can bloom into many things. New relationships, joint ventures, customers, clients, mentors, colleagues, increased revenues, new ideas, collaboration, support, and the list goes on! It never ends in fact.

So often in business we feel some things are tedious or mundane, like managing a Facebook page or making a blog post, but I challenge you to see the gift in the planting of the seeds. I myself, love managing social media and blogging, but I know many business owners do not. It’s not their JOY and that’s okay. However, every little thing that is done in servitude plants a seed that has the potential to grow into a big ole oak tree or a billion dollar company so all seeds count.

When we look at our tasks at hand as seeds, it does get a bit more encouraging doesn’t it? At least I think so ๐Ÿ™‚
