Let me ask you this? If you went to the hair salon and were in search of a new style and asked the stylist to recommend a style for you and they said something like… “Umm, geez, I am not sure… umm maybe this one might look good, but then again, I can’t be certain”…. etc.
How would you feel? Would you feel like that person was not sure of themselves? Would you feel you were paying a professional who was not up to snuff?
Having the confidence to promote and own your worth is a HUGE deal in business. Read the words of T. Harv Ecker from his book “Secrets of The Millionaire Mind”:
“Resenting promotion is one of the greatest obstacles to success. People who have issues with selling and promotion are usually broke. It’s obvious. How can you create a large income in your own business or as a representative of one if you aren’t willing to let people know that you, your product, or your service exists? Even as an employee, if you aren’t willing to promote your virtues, someone who is willing will quickly bypass you on the corporate ladder.”
By owning your voice. so to speak, and being able to promote yourself or your business in an honest and ethical way is a very important component of business success. It is our job as business owners and entrepreneurs to share our gifts and our gifts of service with the world. It is our job to promote ourselves and our skills so that we can be of service to others. Self promotion is important for two reasons. 1) To let people know what you have available for them and 2) To set the stage for trust and mutual benefit from what you have to offer.
Whenever you doubt yourself or you question promoting yourself, think of a role reversal and how you would feel it that person was not confident in their role. My favorite is the surgeon. You: “Hey Doc. how do you think this surgery will go for me?” Doc: “Mmm geez I don’t think I am that good so I really can’t say. I’m just not confident in promoting myself or this procedure”. 🙂 LOL see what I mean? 😉
