We are all creative beings by nature and it seems as though people are awakening to their creative gifts even more so these days.
There are two things that I want to talk about today that can help with creativity. First, you need to encourage and foster it and secondly, you need to be conscious of training your brain to think creatively.
Encourage creativity and you’ll increase creativity. This is true of most things you want to see more of in your life. Encouragement can work wonders in a short time. How do you encourage creativity, though?
First, by paying attention to it. Your subconscious mind tends to give you more of what you pay attention to. If you ignore the creative aspects of your life, you are telling your subconscious that they are unimportant. If you consciously note when you are creative, and you look for opportunities to be creative, your subconscious mind will start feeding you more creative ideas. And the more you seek creativity, the more you will find. 🙂
And there are so many ways to even see creativity in your day. Cooking is a great way. You can see what ingredients that you have in your fridge and come up with a creative way to make something different. I love to do this when making soup. I use up leftovers and clean out the crisper drawer of veggies to create a unique soup every time! Cooking is an easy way to boost creativity.
Write Those Ideas Down!
Another way to encourage and increase creativity is to write your ideas down. Keep an “idea journal.” If you do this regularly, you’ll notice that you often start having more ideas the moment you start to write. A so-so idea may normally be forgotten, but by writing it down, you may remember it, your subconscious works on it, and it can transform into something very creative. You can use a journal or a note app on your phone for example. I have found that my phone is best because I can pop my ideas in there whenever they hit me and wherever I am at the time.
You can also encourage greater creativity in yourself by putting creative ideas into practice. If you paint or write, for example, try anything new. Even just driving a different route to work to see if it is quicker can help. The point is to get your mind working outside of its regular patterns. Another cool tip is to try using your non-dominant hand to perform tasks. This stretches your brain and wakes up new synapses and even helps to increase memory!
A real example I have is that over the years I have had people in my house for family events or holidays and people offer to pitch in with washing the dishes and that is always helpful. But believe it or not I have learned different things from people about even washing dishes because this put me outside of my ‘normal’ range when it comes to the doing of dishes. One of the things I do now after being inspired by someone’s else’s way is to fill the sink with hot water and dish soap and let a batch of dishes soak for awhile :-). And a side note is I always use a non-toxic dish soap…after all we do eat off of these things. If you need a good recommendation let me know 🙂
Change Your Surroundings & Get Our of Your “Normal’
Just changing your surroundings can encourage creativity. If you want more creativity in your love life, do something different with your loved one than what you would normally do…. Go on a picnic or hike up a mountain. Just try something different that gets you out of that normal range!
If you write, try sitting on a rooftop to write. Or try using a voice dictator before you write. Sometimes that allows your creative juices to unleash in a new way and new creative ideas pop out. If you need new ideas for your business, take a notebook to the park and sit by the side of a river. A change of environment can get your brain out of its rut and habitual thinking.
The more you use random techniques to foster creativity, the easier it gets. I am at the point now that I am so creative my mind hardly shuts down.. LOL!
Here is an example that I use for ideas of things to write about, which I am never short off. 🙂 For me it is more wanting to have more time to write about all the things that I want to or could write about.
I grab a book like a quotes book or a health book and I open it up to a random page and then I scan the page and grab a quote or a line of information. That is it. It starts me off on my writing journey. I then just take that quote for example, and share what thoughts I have on it or what I get from it and then I expand on it.
If it is a health fact for example, and I am writing something for my health blog MaggiesVitaminsBlog, I might do some extra research on the topic by Googling or just expand on what I know already.
I find I am NEVER short on ideas to write about because I just have to look around me and get inspired by whatever is there. Once you open your mind up to doing this, there is no shortage of creative ideas!
I hope you found this helpful and I would love to have you comment and share your ways to get your creative juices flowing!
